I have been tagging my questions with full game titles for easy searching, but many of them are being truncated at 25 characters. Can this be increased? I feel if we resort to using acronyms for games (e.g., cod4mw instead of call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare) things will become a huge mess down the road. If there are two games that share the same acronym, it will be harder to decipher which game is being discussed just by looking at the question on the home page or in search results.

I totally agree with you philosophy on spelling the game's name out. I run into character limit. I'll check into it. – MrPhil Dec 1 at 5:06

The currently limit is 25 characters. This way five maximum character tags fit nicely under a question. In the case of long game names, dumping the dashes might be the best option for now. Another options, as Miss Cellanie suggests in the comments, is dividing the main title and subtitle into two different tags. So the example above becomes Call-Of-Duty-4 and Modern-Warfare

How about using the shortest unique identifier? For the example in cowgod's question, it seems that we can just say modern-warfare as long as there isn't a different game with that same phrase in the subtitle. – Miss Cellanie Dec 2 at 1:19

Oh, another idea -- how about using the main title and subtitle as two separate tags? I know it takes up space, but I found it the clearest way to specify the game in a question I just asked. (I tagged it mario-and-luigi and superstar-saga because the full title is Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.) – Miss Cellanie Dec 2 at 1:26
